OB Work

Working on location can be both the most rewarding and the hardest work I do. Most outside broadcasts cover live events over which production teams often have little control, this means that as a cameramen I am the eyes of the director and am trusted to make good judgements and react appropriately to unpredictable events as they happen. I enjoy meeting the challenge of delivering high professional standards of camerawork in demanding circumstances.

I first worked on Outside broadcasts in 1983 as part of a training attachment. I continued to work sporadically on OBs for several years, but due to crew commitments at BBC Television Centre was unable spend much time on the road. I finally transferred permanently to the BBC's outside broadcast department at Kendal Avenue in February 1995 and remained there until leaving the BBC in 2001. During my time at BBC OBs I worked on the entire range of location programming, Covering sport, major events, music and Arts and feature work as well as location drama.

Since going freelance in 2001 I have been able to work for a wider range of OB companies, both in the UK and in Europe.
